Volcano in Iceland=American High School French Club Stuck in Paris!
Icelandic Eyjafjallajökull Volcano
A group of high school students from Neenah, Wisconsin visiting Paris with their French Club is stuck in France, due to the Icelandic Volcano eruption that has upset so many European and worldwide travelers’ schedules over the last week.
The French students were scheduled to leave France at 9:30am Saturday morning, reports CNN.com’s iReport. They’ve already spent a whopping 15 days touring the area, spending half the time as tourists, and staying with a host family for the second week of the trip.
Right now, their vacation over, they are at a hotel near the airport awaiting a flight home, one that might not leave the ground for many more days.
The Icelandic volcano has exploded dust clouds into the sky as high as four miles high, leaving airports across the world in disarray as no flights can enter or leave the impacted region. CNN reports that there are fears that the disruption could continue into the middle of the week and that the clouds could become even more concentrated on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This is the worst disruption of airline service since September 11, 2001. “KHelwig,” her iReport user name on CNN, is the mother of one of the kids stuck in Paris. She said that her daughter Megan, “didn’t sound worried. They’re just definitely ready to get home. They probably don’t even have any clean clothes and are low on money. But they’re all in pretty good spirits.” Apparently the group thinks they’ll be able to leave by Thursday. We’ll see!
If you’ve ever been on a trip abroad, when you’re ready to go home, you’re READY to go home. I feel for all the people who have been impacted by this phenomenon of nature. It’s a swift reminder that Mother Nature is in charge.
